Sydney or Auckland: which trip fits you?

Two harbour cities a short flight apart. Sydney is the bigger, busier city with famous beaches and landmarks; Auckland is smaller and calmer, with ferries, volcanic cones and quick access to islands and countryside.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost examples for two adults sharing one room, staying six nights over seven days, 10–16 November 2026. International flights, visas, insurance and shopping are excluded. They are planning examples, not live booking offers or year-round price ranges.

What is specific to this budget

  • Airfare is excluded and will differ by origin; it can outweigh the ground-cost gap. The two scopes are not the same size, so compare what each trip includes, not just the totals.

Transport and season

The caps work differently: Sydney's Opal caps are daily and weekly (Monday–Sunday) and apply to Opal cards, contactless cards and devices, plus a separate airport station fee; Auckland's cap is a rolling seven-day cap on AT HOP cards only, with contactless bank cards and phones not eligible, and it covers the airport bus link. November is late spring in both. Many travellers combine them; each example here is a separate one-city week.

Dated ground cost side by side

Basket A of each hotel tier, same party and dates, flights excluded. Scopes differ in size and in what each trip includes, so read the full itemised examples on each cost guide before deciding.
