Questions people ask before choosing a destination
Short, honest answers about deciding where to go and what a trip is likely to cost.
I know my budget but not the destination. Where do I start?
Start from the money, not the map. Answer eight questions about budget, days, departure city and the kind of trip you want, and you get destinations whose whole-trip estimate fits — flights, stay, food, local transport and activities together — with the ones that only just fit marked as tight rather than comfortable.
Do flexible dates actually make flights cheaper?
Flexible dates let you compare more options; they do not guarantee a lower fare. The same route can cost different amounts on different days, which is why fare search tools let you compare before choosing: Google Flights offers a date grid and a price graph for departure and return dates, and Skyscanner lets you search a whole month at once. Both can also widen the search to nearby airports. Comparing is the point — no particular day is reliably cheap, so we never name a cheapest day.

Which destinations are affordable in a particular month?
Our month pages answer this from seasonality and our cost model, not from fares on sale today. Where the information is available, a destination shows a recorded best window, months that combine decent conditions with a lower seasonal price level, and months to avoid; coverage varies by destination. Use what is shown to pick a month and a shortlist, then use a fare search to check what that month currently costs.
Is a cheap flight the same thing as an affordable trip?
Not necessarily. A lower airfare can still lead to a more expensive trip once accommodation, meals, local transport and activities are included. Compare estimated totals for the same travelers and trip length, and check which costs are included.
Where do I verify prices, and can I be told when they change?
We do not sell anything and we hold no live inventory, so the price you pay is always the one the airline or hotel shows at the moment you book. Check the route in a fare search first — Google Flights' help explains how to read the date grid and price graph, and notes that baggage and other fees may apply on top of the displayed fare — and Skyscanner can send a price alert for a route you are watching so you do not have to keep checking.

Our group has different budgets and different preferences. What then?
Use the Group Travel Decision Room to collect participants' budgets and preferences privately and compare destination fit and tradeoffs. The results support a discussion; a high fit score is not the same as everyone agreeing.

Three steps, no guesswork
My Travel Choices is a free destination planner for the question “where can I travel with my budget?”. You don’t pick a destination: you tell it the country you are travelling from, your total budget, trip length, rough travel month, who is coming and the kind of trip you want, and it ranks realistic destinations with estimated cost ranges instead of a wishlist you cannot afford.
