How much does a week in Auckland cost?

An Auckland city week: a central hotel, AT HOP public transport with the rolling seven-day fare cap, the Devonport ferry and the Sky Tower. Hobbiton, Rotorua and Waiheke are separate trips and are not priced.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost examples for two adults sharing one room, staying six nights over seven days, 10–16 November 2026. International flights, visas, insurance and shopping are excluded. They are planning examples, not live booking offers or year-round price ranges.

What is specific to this budget

  • Food allowances are national proxy estimates, not Auckland restaurant quotes.
  • The budget, mid-range and luxury tiers are led by the hotel: each tier is one named, date-matched hotel, and baskets A and B mainly change the food and activity mix; in some scopes (for example Rio) a basket also swaps transport, such as a private tour replacing bus trips. A higher hotel tier does not imply luxury dining or private transport.
  • What changes the bill most: the hotel you pick, the season and exact dates, and whether you keep to public transport. Party composition and room requirements can change pricing; these examples are for two adults in one room, so a different party needs repricing rather than linear multiplication.

Airport and city transport

The examples use the airport bus link and city services on an AT HOP card; Auckland's fare cap is a rolling seven-day cap that applies only to AT HOP cards (contactless bank cards and phones are not eligible), and it already includes the airport trips and the Devonport ferry, so none of them is added again. Each adult pays the card purchase fee once.

A taxi or shuttle from the airport would cost more and is not in these examples. November is late spring, with changeable weather.

Practical notes

Arrive at AKL and use Airport Link to Puhinui, then the appropriate city train connection. The estimate allows up to NZ$50 in eligible fares per adult over one seven-day HOP period, plus a NZ$5 card fee each. Airport Link, city transit and the Devonport return ferry are inside that allowance, not additional tickets. Initial card credit is spendable fare balance, not another charge. Confirm operating times for arrival and departure; late flights may require a separately priced taxi. Food uses explicit allowances within an operator’s national price ranges, not claimed Auckland restaurant quotes.

Limits of these examples

Food allowances sit within national ranges, not Auckland menus. The AT HOP cap is the most you pay for eligible trips, not a pass price; using transport less costs less. Sky Drive and airport taxis are not included. Hotel meals and cancellation terms were not shown, and food is bought separately. The Sky Tower price is the displayed admission, not a reserved ticket, and visibility is not guaranteed. Covers Auckland only, not the South Island or all of New Zealand.
