Cancún or Rio de Janeiro: which trip fits you?

Both mean beaches, but different trips. Cancún is a resort strip where the hotel's board plan shapes the budget; Rio is a big city with beaches, where sightseeing, neighbourhoods and nightlife fill the days.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost examples for two adults sharing one room, staying six nights over seven days, 10–16 November 2026. International flights, visas, insurance and shopping are excluded. They are planning examples, not live booking offers or year-round price ranges.

What is specific to this budget

  • Airfare is excluded and will differ by origin; it can outweigh the ground-cost gap. The two scopes are not the same size, so compare what each trip includes, not just the totals.

What changes the comparison

Cancún's mid-range and luxury examples are modelled as all-inclusive, so most food is assumed inside the hotel line (exact November plan terms were not exposed; confirm your quoted booking terms); Rio's examples buy meals separately. The Cancún luxury example is adults-only. Rio's luxury tier is a much pricier hotel than its other tiers. Visitor taxes and airport transfers are listed separately on each cost guide.

Dated ground cost side by side

Basket A of each hotel tier, same party and dates, flights excluded. Scopes differ in size and in what each trip includes, so read the full itemised examples on each cost guide before deciding.
