Airfare is excluded and will differ by origin; it can outweigh the ground-cost gap. The two scopes are not the same size, so compare what each trip includes, not just the totals.
Airport and city transport
Auckland's examples use the airport bus link and city services on AT HOP cards under a rolling seven-day fare cap (AT HOP only; contactless bank cards and phones are not eligible), which already covers the airport trips and the Devonport ferry, plus a one-time card fee per adult. Vancouver's examples use the Canada Line SkyTrain from YVR, with the AddFare only when leaving the airport, and an all-zone DayPass every day, which is generous if you mostly walk.
Scope, season and price
Both are one-city weeks: Hobbiton, Rotorua and Waiheke from Auckland, and Whistler, Victoria and cruises from Vancouver, are not priced. Auckland's food allowances are national proxy estimates; Vancouver adds a GST line only when meal prices are shown before tax. Room rates drive most of the gap in the table below; the seasons are opposite, so choose on the weather and activities you want, then compare airfare from your own city.
