MTC cost guide

How much does a week in Vancouver cost?

A Vancouver city week: downtown hotels, an all-zone transit DayPass each day, SkyTrain from the airport and the Vancouver Lookout. Whistler, Victoria and cruises are not priced.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost examples for two adults sharing one room, staying six nights over seven days, 10–16 November 2026. International flights, visas, insurance and shopping are excluded. They are planning examples, not live booking offers or year-round price ranges.

What is specific to this budget

  • The GST line applies only if the meal prices you pay are shown before tax; skip it if you use tax-inclusive prices.
  • The budget, mid-range and luxury tiers are led by the hotel: each tier is one named, date-matched hotel, and baskets A and B mainly change the food and activity mix; in some scopes (for example Rio) a basket also swaps transport, such as a private tour replacing bus trips. A higher hotel tier does not imply luxury dining or private transport.
  • What changes the bill most: the hotel you pick, the season and exact dates, and whether you keep to public transport. Party composition and room requirements can change pricing; these examples are for two adults in one room, so a different party needs repricing rather than linear multiplication.

Airport and city transport

The Canada Line SkyTrain links YVR with downtown. Leaving the airport by SkyTrain adds the AddFare once per adult; travelling to the airport does not.

The examples buy an all-zone DayPass for every day, which is simple but generous; if you mostly walk downtown, single fares would cost less. November is often wet.

Dated cost examples

Six dated, itemised examples from 2026-11-10 to 2026-11-16: 6 nights and 7 days for two adults sharing one room, which is 14 person-days. Prices are as observed in September 2026, cover ground costs only, and are not multiplied out to other party sizes or trip lengths.

Dated planning estimate for two adults sharing one room, 10–16 November 2026, seven days/six nights. Flights excluded. Actual prices, availability, taxes and transport timing may differ; see the assumptions.

The YVR AddFare applies only when leaving the airport by SkyTrain. The GST line applies only if meal prices are pre-tax.

Practical notes

Take the Canada Line from YVR. The model uses one all-zone Day Pass per adult each day, plus the airport Add Fare only on arrival when buying the ticket on Sea Island. The return airport journey is covered by that day’s pass. Reach Granville Island by the regular transit/walking network; private False Creek ferries are not included. Passes are a convenient planning allowance and may cost more than sparse single rides. Food figures use a disclosed 5% tax allowance because the benchmark does not itemize tax; remove it if a replacement price already includes GST. Optional gratuities remain outside the subtotal.

Limits of these examples

Hotel meal, room and cancellation terms were not shown, and food is bought separately. The 5% food-tax line assumes the food reference is pre-tax, so the estimate may be high if some prices already include tax. The Vancouver Lookout price is a reseller's displayed amount without a full fee breakdown; refresh it before buying. Tips are optional and excluded. Daily passes can cost more than light use; private ferries and bikes are excluded. Whistler, the Rockies, skiing and the rest of Canada are not included.
