the Kathmandu Valley or Siem Reap: which trip fits you?

Two heritage weeks with very different settings. The Kathmandu Valley is living city heritage — palace squares, stupas and courtyards across three old towns; Siem Reap is a base for the Angkor temple complex, visited over several days by tuk-tuk.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost examples for two adults sharing one room, staying six nights over seven days, 10–16 November 2026. International flights, visas, insurance and shopping are excluded. They are planning examples, not live booking offers or year-round price ranges.

What is specific to this budget

  • Airfare is excluded and will differ by origin; it can outweigh the ground-cost gap. The two scopes are not the same size, so compare what each trip includes, not just the totals.

Tickets and getting around

Kathmandu uses several site tickets and a car with driver; Siem Reap uses one multi-day Angkor pass and tuk-tuk days. Kathmandu has more traffic and altitude-related weather variation; Siem Reap is hot most of the year. Guides are not included in either.

Dated ground cost side by side

Basket A of each hotel tier, same party and dates, flights excluded. Scopes differ in size and in what each trip includes, so read the full itemised examples on each cost guide before deciding.
