Vienna or Munich for a January week?

Choose Vienna for imperial museums, cafés and music; choose Munich for beer halls, art collections and a Bavarian old town. Both sets use the same dates, party and room basis and are priced in euros.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost illustrations for two adults sharing one room, six nights over seven days, 19–25 January 2027. Hotel prices are public room-table observations from 2 October 2026, not checkout-reconciled quotes. Flights, visas, insurance and regional trips are excluded. They are not bookable and not year-round ranges or calculator defaults.

What is specific to this budget

  • Hotel tax: Vienna reserves 10% VAT plus a 5% local tax; Munich reserves 7% VAT and no city tax.
  • Transport: Vienna uses a 7-day transit pass and airport extension; Munich uses car and ride allowances, which are planning estimates, not fares.
  • No breakfast is credited in either city: all six hotel rates are room only.

Trade-offs

Both suit a museum-led winter week. Salzburg, the Alps and Bavarian castles are separate trips not priced here; performance tickets in Vienna need their own budget.
