On a short trip, one base usually gives you more useful days; each move costs part of a day, a transfer and a new check-in. A second base makes sense when it adds something the first cannot, and when the trip is long enough to absorb the move. The worked example shows how the total grows with trip length.
Two researched MTC routes show the trade-off: Colombo then Bentota (two city nights, four beach nights, three road transfers), and Tashkent, Samarkand and back to Tashkent (four rail legs for two travellers and six transfers). Each move is a priced line, not a free day.
Plan moving days lightly. Seven calendar days with one move is closer to six days of sightseeing.
How to do it
1List what each extra base adds that the first cannot.
2Count transfer days and price each transfer.
3Give each base at least two nights so you are not packing every morning.
4Use the multi-city planner to check the route as a whole.
Worked example
One destination priced at seven, ten and fourteen days.
Scenario: Sri Lanka · departing Riyadh · February · 10 days · 2 travellers · Mid-range · SAR · flights included

What this example assumes
On-the-ground costs come from the site's cost bands, whose data reference is 2026-08-23. Loading this page does not refresh that data.
Rooms are one room per two travellers. There is no children's pricing and no age-based discount anywhere in the model.
Airfare is modelled from the departure metro and the travel month. It is not a quote, and if you already hold a real fare you should enter it in the calculator so it replaces the modelled one.
Cost data reference: 2026-08-23. Opening this page does not refresh it.
Where this goes wrong
Counting a transfer day as a full sightseeing day.
Adding a city for one night and spending most of it in transit.
Forgetting station or airport transfers on top of the main ticket.
What this guide does not do
Every figure on this page is a modelled estimate built from typical costs for the stated scenario. It is not a live fare, not a live room rate, not an offer and not a booking.
Month suitability and modelled prices are not a weather forecast and not a fare forecast. They describe what a month is typically like, not what your dates will be.
