MTC cost guide

How much does a week in Nungwi, Zanzibar cost?

A single-base Nungwi beach week in northern Zanzibar: one hotel, road transfers from ZNZ airport, a shared sunset dhow outing and Zanzibar's mandatory inbound insurance.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost examples for two adults sharing one room over the same modelled stay dates, six nights over seven days, 10–16 November 2026. Zanzibar's mandatory inbound insurance is included in the Nungwi figures, once per adult. Optional personal travel insurance, international flights, visas and shopping are excluded. They are planning examples, not live booking offers or year-round price ranges.

What is specific to this budget

  • The budget tier is a cross-date projection — lower confidence; not a November offer. It doubles a September three-night Amaan observation to six nights because exact November dates could not be searched.
  • Zanzibar's mandatory inbound insurance is included once. Optional personal travel insurance is still excluded.
  • The Nungwi tiers are not all date-matched offers. The budget tier (Amaan) is a lower-confidence cross-date projection, not a November offer. Mid-range and luxury are the garden double and the rooftop suite at the same Z Hotel, priced from its published seasonal November tariffs; they are not guaranteed bookable offers. Baskets A and B mainly change the food and activity mix.
  • What changes the bill most: the hotel you pick, the season and exact dates, and whether you keep to public transport. Party composition and room requirements can change pricing; these examples are for two adults in one room, so a different party needs repricing rather than linear multiplication.

Hotel eligibility and what is included

Mid-range and luxury are two different rooms at the same Z Hotel: the garden double and the rooftop suite on its published November tariff, breakfast included, with a per-adult-night infrastructure levy on top. Z Hotel does not accept children under 16, so these examples do not suit families with younger children.

Z Hotel's rate includes 12 breakfast portions for the party; only 2 further breakfast portions in total are bought separately, so breakfast is not paid twice. Amaan's levy is modelled at a lower per-adult-night rate than Z Hotel's.

Airport transfer and the dhow

The ZNZ–Nungwi sedan is an operator tariff per vehicle each way, about 80–120 minutes by road; it is not a live booking. The shared sunset dhow has no hotel pickup and depends on the weather. It is not a safari.

Dated cost examples

Six dated, itemised examples from 2026-11-10 to 2026-11-16: 6 nights and 7 days for two adults sharing one room, which is 14 person-days. Prices are as observed in September 2026, cover ground costs only, and are not multiplied out to other party sizes or trip lengths.

Dated planning estimate for two adults sharing one room, 10–16 November 2026, seven days/six nights. Flights excluded. Actual prices, availability, taxes and transport timing may differ; see the assumptions.

Zanzibar's mandatory inbound insurance (USD 44 per adult) is included once. Optional personal travel insurance is not. Z Hotel's two rooms are at the same property, include breakfast (not paid twice) and do not admit children under 16; the budget Amaan figure is a lower-confidence cross-date projection.

Practical notes

Allow roughly 80–120 minutes for ZNZ–Nungwi road access; the operator tariff used is USD 40 per sedan each way, with return parity explicitly published. The local itinerary is on foot near the village hotels and includes one USD 25-per-person shared dhow cruise; boarding access is self-arranged on foot, not a hotel-transfer package. Two mandatory Zanzibar inbound-insurance premiums of USD 44 are included. Flights and passport-specific visa costs remain separate. Mid-range and luxury examples use the same Z Hotel’s garden room and rooftop suite respectively, not two different resorts. Their six included breakfasts replace twelve purchased breakfast portions. The budget example uses a separately dated September Amaan observation extrapolated to six nights; it is a lower-confidence November planning calibration, not a November availability quote.

Limits of these examples

Covers a Nungwi beach stay only: no mainland safari, Stone Town overnight or island circuit. The budget Amaan figure is a cross-date projection from September, lower confidence and not a November offer. Z Hotel prices come from its published seasonal tariff; availability was not tested, and the hotel does not accept children under 16, so these examples do not apply to families with younger children. Zanzibar's mandatory inbound insurance is included once; optional personal travel insurance, flights, visas and shopping are excluded. Food and water are regional estimates. The dhow outing depends on the weather and has no hotel pickup. Exchange rates are dated references; recheck prices before booking.
