Where to base yourself in Naples

Naples rewards a base you can walk from, but the four common areas trade off very differently. This page compares them for a city-only trip and shows the same dated hotel examples as the cost guide, so you can see what each base does to the total.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost illustrations for two adults sharing one room, six nights over seven days, 19–25 January 2027. Hotel prices are public room-table observations from 2 October 2026, not checkout quotes; the restaurant menu was reviewed the same day. Flights, visas, insurance, shopping, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Capri and Amalfi are excluded. They are not booking quotes, year-round ranges or calculator defaults.

What is specific to this budget

Historic centre: closest to the main walking experience, churches and food streets. Expect stairs, narrow lanes and evening noise; check the exact street, lift access and the final walk with luggage before booking.
Waterfront (Via Caracciolo, Chiaia, Santa Lucia): a calmer, more open atmosphere along the sea, and the area of the restaurant used for meal prices here. It is a longer walk or ride to the old centre.
Central station (Piazza Garibaldi): practical for trains and airport connections, and UNA Hotels Napoli is here. It is a busy transport hub, so check street and room noise before booking.
Business district (Centro Direzionale): modern towers with chain hotels such as Holiday Inn Naples, lifts and easy car access, but little street life in the evening. The hotel lists a nearby Centro Direzionale metro station; plan metro or other transport to the historic centre.

How the base changes the budget

A cheaper room further out often adds local rides; the examples here carry a fixed ride allowance, so add more if you stay in the business district and eat on the seafront. A historic-centre room may save rides but cost more in time with luggage.

Relais Della Porta is on Via Toledo 368, on the third floor of a historic building, per its official site (not the separate Palazzo Della Porta B&B). Check lift and step access directly; its classification and city-tax rate remain unresolved and no star rating is claimed.

Every Naples total shows, right beside it, a provisional city-tax reserve and the subtotal before it. The tax is real and not optional, but the room tables do not show whether it is already included, Relais Della Porta's classification is unresolved, and the 2027 rate was not verified for these examples. Remove the reserve if your bill already includes the tax; never pay it twice.

What this page does not cover

Bases for Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri or the Amalfi Coast are different trips with their own transport and lodging; do not reuse these totals for them.

Common questions

Can I fit Naples and the Amalfi Coast into this budget? No. The coastal extension needs additional transport, lodging and time.

Is the historic centre always quiet? Check the exact street and room position; central location alone does not establish quietness.
