Geneva or Lucerne for a January week?
Choose Geneva for a lakeside international city with an easy airport link; choose Lucerne for a compact lake town with bridges and mountain views. Both sets use the same dates, party and room basis and are priced in Swiss francs.
Scope, dates and party
These are dated ground-cost illustrations for two adults sharing one room, six nights over seven days, 19–25 January 2027. Hotel prices are public room-table observations from 2 October 2026, not checkout-reconciled quotes. Flights, visas, insurance and regional trips are excluded. They are not bookable and not year-round ranges or calculator defaults.
What is specific to this budget
- Hotel tax: in Lucerne all three prices include taxes; in Geneva only ibis does, and the other two carry a VAT and city-tax reserve.
- Airport: Geneva's guest card covers the airport train for eligible guests; Lucerne's model arrives at Zurich Airport and budgets the train separately.
- Meals: both menus include 8.1% VAT; Lucerne's restaurant menu is a summer 2026 menu, not a January guarantee.
Trade-offs
January is cold in both. Mountain railways, lake cruises, Chamonix and France are separate trips not priced here.
