MTC cost guide

How much does a week in Cartagena (Bocagrande) cost?

A Cartagena week based in Bocagrande: one hotel, airport taxis, TransCaribe buses and Castillo San Felipe. Bocagrande is a city beach base, not a Barú or Rosario island resort.

Scope, dates and party

These are dated ground-cost examples for two adults sharing one room, staying six nights over seven days, 10–16 November 2026. International flights, visas, insurance and shopping are excluded. They are planning examples, not live booking offers or year-round price ranges.

What is specific to this budget

  • 10–16 November overlaps Cartagena's Independence festivities, so this is not a typical November week: expect crowds and possible road closures.
  • The budget, mid-range and luxury tiers are led by the hotel: each tier is one named, date-matched hotel, and baskets A and B mainly change the food and activity mix; in some scopes (for example Rio) a basket also swaps transport, such as a private tour replacing bus trips. A higher hotel tier does not imply luxury dining or private transport.
  • What changes the bill most: the hotel you pick, the season and exact dates, and whether you keep to public transport. Party composition and room requirements can change pricing; these examples are for two adults in one room, so a different party needs repricing rather than linear multiplication.

Hotel VAT: a conservative allowance

Each tier keeps a 19% VAT allowance on the net room rate, counted once. Some non-resident visitors can be exempt, but a zero tax on a booking site is not proof; deduct the VAT line only if the hotel confirms your eligibility and how your booking is treated.

Airport taxi and bus payment

The CTG–Bocagrande taxi is priced per vehicle at the daytime fare; the return is assumed at the same rate, and rides between 19:00 and 05:00 carry a small night surcharge. TransCaribe rides use the fare effective 23 January 2026.

The examples buy two TransCaribe cards at a dated 2023 price. The operator now accepts contactless VISA debit or credit cards and VISA Apple Pay or Google Pay: each traveller needs their own payment method, one payment per card per hour, and the same card or device for same-direction transfers within 90 minutes. Where accepted, this can avoid buying cards; the examples keep the cards.

Dated cost examples

Six dated, itemised examples from 2026-11-10 to 2026-11-16: 6 nights and 7 days for two adults sharing one room, which is 14 person-days. Prices are as observed in September 2026, cover ground costs only, and are not multiplied out to other party sizes or trip lengths.

Dated planning estimate for two adults sharing one room, 10–16 November 2026, seven days/six nights. Flights excluded. Actual prices, availability, taxes and transport timing may differ; see the assumptions.

A conservative 19% VAT allowance is kept once in each tier; deduct it only if the hotel confirms your exemption. These dates overlap Cartagena's Independence festivities, so this is not a typical November week. Bocagrande is a city beach base, not a Barú or Rosario island resort.

Practical notes

The airport publishes COP 34400 per vehicle to Bocagrande and a COP 1100 night supplement 19:00–05:00. The model uses the same fare as an explicit return-journey allowance, not independently confirmed reverse tariff. Local travel uses 28 TransCaribe boardings at COP 3900 and two COP 6000 cards; the card price is an older published operator price retained as a refreshable estimate. T103 serves Bocagrande; check current stops and event diversions. San Felipe standard foreign-adult admission is COP 38000. Hotel totals conservatively include 19% VAT on the displayed net: eligible nonresident tourists may receive exemption after the hotel checks documents, but the model does not assume eligibility. Remove that allowance only when confirmed; do not add it again to the supplier’s zero tax field.

Limits of these examples

Covers a Bocagrande city-beach base only, not Barú or Rosario island resorts. These dates overlap the Independence festivities, so demand and journey times may be atypical. The TransCaribe card price is a dated 2023 allowance; the historical skyline photo does not show current coastal works. Hotel prices are dated search observations for 10–16 November 2026, not checkout quotes: room, bedding, meal and cancellation terms were not fully shown, and the sampled hotel is not necessarily the cheapest available. Food is a planning allowance, not a menu. Flights, visas, optional personal travel insurance and shopping are excluded. Exchange rates are dated references; recheck prices before booking.
