Choosing between a beach, city or nature holiday

The short answer

Start with how you want to spend your days: resting by the water, walking museums and neighbourhoods, or getting out into landscapes. Then check pace and days — nature trips often need more transport time. The worked example prices one destination of each style on the same dates, and the finder turns your interests into a shortlist.

Many trips mix styles. If you want two, pick a destination that is strong in both rather than adding a second base on a short trip.

The three destinations in the table are examples of each style, not a ranking.

How to do it

  1. Choose your top two interests in the finder.
  2. Set your pace: slow, balanced or packed.
  3. Check the month on each shortlisted destination's best-time page.
  4. Price the shortlist for your own dates.

Worked example

One beach, one city-led and one nature-led destination priced on the same dates.

Scenario: Maldives · departing Riyadh · November · 7 days · 2 travellers · Mid-range · SAR · flights included

What this example assumes

  • On-the-ground costs come from the site's cost bands, whose data reference is 2026-08-23. Loading this page does not refresh that data.
  • Rooms are one room per two travellers. There is no children's pricing and no age-based discount anywhere in the model.
  • Airfare is modelled from the departure metro and the travel month. It is not a quote, and if you already hold a real fare you should enter it in the calculator so it replaces the modelled one.

Cost data reference: 2026-08-23. Opening this page does not refresh it.

Where this goes wrong

  • Picking a style for its photos rather than for how you like to spend a day.
  • Underestimating transport time on nature trips.
  • Assuming a beach trip is cheaper: resort islands can cost more than cities.

What this guide does not do

  • Every figure on this page is a modelled estimate built from typical costs for the stated scenario. It is not a live fare, not a live room rate, not an offer and not a booking.
  • Month suitability and modelled prices are not a weather forecast and not a fare forecast. They describe what a month is typically like, not what your dates will be.
